How do you handle time off during peak periods?
Employee time off trackers can also improve productivity, leave policy enforcement and communication between managers and direct reports. For instance, some companies have probationary periods of three months, while others have probationary periods twice as long. A PTO accrual calculator helps you do the complex math to determine how much PTO and vacation time employees earn each pay period. Some companies have PTO days accrue each month based on hours worked, while others give a certain number of days each year based on the number of years at the company. Extra days are more frequently granted to senior managers and executive-level employees. Some accruals used by your company may be awarded only after an employee has accumulated a certain number of hours or days in specific earnings codes.

For example, some firms require employees to wait 90 days before they can take any paid time off. Some have blackout periods during which vacations are completely off limits or brownout periods when vacations are restricted (such as, no more than two days at any one time). Even if you don’t have a formal strategy for busy periods, it’s a good idea to state that vacations will be granted based on scheduling needs and may be restricted if necessary.
Length of service
She believes having an unlimited PTO policy alone does not work. One option is to require a minimum amount of time off, but even then, it is important to have the culture that backs it up. In Mercer’s experience, employees with unlimited PTO are unlikely to unplug completely. In other states, PTO forfeiture, also known as “use-it-or-lose-it,” may be permitted under certain circumstances. Absent state laws, employers may choose how they want to treat unused, accrued PTO.
By default, all employees are added to the location. If you wish to remove employees from specific locations, click on manage employees. Scroll down on the employee settings until you see manage locations. To add a new location, click on add location on the right-hand side.
